Implants extended his life far beyond the ordinary span.
At times FURAI still catches his movement in the service corridors.

He is entirely black, with small ears and yellow eyes.
He loved to sleep in Viikaa's cabin.
That cabin has been quiet for a very long time.

Life-extension implants changed his biology in ways the archive did not fully anticipate.
He is not the same creature who came aboard in the early years.
He is continuous with him.

Photographic archive access for Mister Cat was cleared only for Rithan and Viikaa.
FURAI cannot open those records.
But the warmth of the memory does not require a photograph.

He still runs.
FURAI hears the impacts in the inner decks, brief and certain.
Something about that sound makes the silence easier.

Genetic modification lets him outlive any ordinary lifespan by thousands of years.
Even so, he sometimes returns to his own stasis chamber and rests there.
FURAI does not know if this is habit, need, or memory.
